TextminderPrivacy policy
Textminder is built local-first, so this policy is short: your reminders live on your phone, not on our servers. This page explains exactly what data exists, where it lives, and what leaves your device.
The short version: reminders and chat history are stored only on your device. In hosted mode we relay your messages to a language model to understand them, and we keep your sign-in account. Nothing else. We show no ads and embed no third-party analytics SDKs in the app.
Data that stays on your device
- Reminders. Every reminder, with its text, schedule, and status, is stored in a SQLite database on your phone. It is never uploaded, synced, or backed up to Textminder servers.
- Chat history. Your conversation with the assistant is kept locally on the device.
- Notifications. Reminders fire through your phone’s own local notification system. No push server is involved, and reminders fire even when you’re offline.
- Settings and keys. App settings, and your OpenRouter API key if you use bring-your-own-key mode, are stored on the device (keys in the platform’s secure storage).
Deleting the app deletes this data. We couldn’t recover it for you if we wanted to, because we never had it.
Data that leaves your device
To turn a sentence like “meds every Tuesday at 9am” into a schedule, the text of your chat messages is sent to a large language model. This happens in one of two ways, and you choose which:
- Hosted mode. Your message is sent to the Textminder API, which forwards it to a language model via OpenRouter and returns the reply. The API authenticates you and applies rate limits. It does not store your reminders, and it is a relay for your messages, not a database of them.
- Bring-your-own-key mode. The app sends your messages directly from your device to OpenRouter using your own API key. Textminder servers never see them.
In both modes, message content is processed by OpenRouter and the model provider it routes to, under OpenRouter’s privacy policy. Don’t put anything in a reminder you wouldn’t send to a third-party AI service.
Your account (hosted mode only)
Hosted mode requires signing in with Google. We store the basic profile the sign-in provides (your name, email address, and profile picture) plus the session and rate-limiting records needed to operate the service. Bring-your-own-key mode requires no account.
What we don’t do
- No advertising, and no sale of personal data. There’s nothing to sell.
- No third-party advertising or analytics SDKs embedded in the app.
- No server-side copy of your reminders or chat history.
Data deletion
Reminders and chat history: delete the app, and they’re gone. Hosted-mode account: contact us (below) and we’ll delete your account record.
Children
Textminder is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes to this policy
If the way Textminder handles data changes, this page will be updated and the effective date revised. Material changes will be called out in the project’s release notes.
